Math
The 2020-2021 school year offered us a unique challenge since hosting in-person tours was not allowed. Though first-hand experience is our preferred showcase, we worked hard to provide you with an alternative medium in the form of a three-dimensional (3-D) tour of our facilities. We are presenting each 3-D space with the corresponding class descriptions.

Math Applications

Math Applications is a course taught by Mr. Sims and is a course designed for IB students who like to apply mathematics into the real world and like to use mathematics for practical problems in everyday life. This course goes over multiple different math subjects and areas including: algebra, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, functions, and a little bit of calculus. Additionally, this course is divided into two different levels: SL, or standard level, and HL, or higher level. At the end of the year, there are external assessments of the student’s understanding and grasp of the course which includes two papers (three if the student chooses to HL the course) that are basically exams consisting of both short-response and extended-response questions. Additionally, there is also an internal assessment, or IA, that the student is required to do outside of class; however, the student has much more freedom in what the topic of their internal assessment will be.

Math Analysis

Math Analysis is for students looking to pursue math based majors at a college or university level, and is the Higher Level math course that students in IB can take, Math Applications being the Standard Level course.  This math course is focused on developing math based arguments with logic and problem solving and exploring real abstract applications of math.  The course content includes material from Trigonometry and Geometry, Statistics, Algebra, and Calculus.  Since many students taking this class have already taken up to Calculus level math classes, the material covered in this class will be a more in depth study of every subject it covers (listed above) that wouldn’t be covered in the classes students have already taken.  Just like any other IB course, students are required to complete and Internal Assessment along with 3 papers to evaluate the students understanding of abstract mathematical thinking.
