Sciences

The 2020-2021 school year offered us a unique challenge since hosting in-person tours was not allowed. Though first-hand experience is our preferred showcase, we worked hard to provide you with an alternative medium in the form of a three-dimensional (3-D) tour of our facilities. We are presenting each 3-D space with the corresponding class descriptions.

Biology

All IB Science classes are two-year courses. During your Senior year, you will choose to test in either the SL or HL level. Mrs. Betancourt and Mrs. Farmer are both eager to mold your student into a competent scientist, and will each have the same class of students for both years. Topics include: biochemistry, cells, metabolism, reproduction, genetics, taxonomy, evolution, and ecology. At the end of senior year, students will take the AP Biology and the IB Biology exams.

Chemistry

IB Chemistry is another option for your 2-year IB science requirement. Junior year, you will cover the AP Chemistry curriculum. It will detail gas laws, acids and bases, thermodynamics, and quantum theory, among other topics. At the end of Junior year you will take the AP Chemistry exam. Of particular focus for your Senior year is the completion of the Internal Assessment: an investigative essay that seeks to define the chemistry phenomena in the real world.

Physics

Physics will explore motion, momentum, gravity, and mechanics, among other fundamental concepts. At the end of that year, you will be take the AP Physics exam. Senior year, you will take the IB Physics course with the same teacher. A focus of your Senior year is the completion of an Internal Assessment (IA). The AP Physics C course is a more calculus-based course. At the end of the year, you’ll be taking your IB Physics exam and the Algebra-based AP Physics 2 exam, as well as the AP Physics C exam, if you doubled-up.
